Every Spring Dharma Trading sells what they call muck dyes. They are made in limited quantities and can’t be reproduced. They are CHEAP! For these I paid between $4.50 and $6 for 8 oz. Usually these fiber reactive dyes run, depending on color, between $1.95 and $5.75 for 2 oz! The down side is if you fall in love with a color, what you bought is all you get! And they sell out fast. This year I ordered all six of the colors, and they are absolutely stunning!
From left to right are Stonehenge, Sun of A Peach, Spanish Lavender, I’m Lichen This!, Himalayan Salt, and Be More Pacific! Love their cute names they give these dyes.
We’ve been busy cleaning up the garage. We recently had several shelves built so we could get more organized.
Here are before and after pictures. The blank areas had a variety of plastic shelving that we’ve had for years. They worked but really didn’t provide us the organization we wanted.
Lastly, the area in my dye studio where I had a plastic shelf.
This is how the area looks with my stuff back in it. They also added an extra shelf on both walls above the existing shelves. I still need a bit more labeling, but I’m happy with the organization now.
So then I got back to dyeing these muck dyes.
The first picture on the blog are fat quarters dyed. When I was going through the dye studio I found scraps of fabric that my friend Dawn had given me. I’ve dyed them in the past and given her some since she likes to work in small pieces. However, it’s been a long time and I still have lots of scraps. So here they are dyed. They are various sizes of scraps and because some of them are not 100% cotton, the pieces are various hues of the colors.
I’m not sure what I will be doing with them just yet but have a couple ideas. I’ll share them in future posts. Thanks for dropping by.

Wow, these are great colors and I also love the names they give them! And I’m very impressed with your reorganization with the shelving – hope it makes everything easier to find and get to. Have fun!
The colors are FABULOUS!!! You and your posts make me want to give dyeing fabric a try, Lynda. And I checked to order those same MUCK dyes and like you said – they sell out fassssssssssst . . . all gone so I won’t be enjoying these colors. So glad YOU got them. Stunning fabrics . . . so yummy!
Ann, Thanks. It’s so much fun! I love the surprises and turning white fabric to colors.
Judy, Thanks. Yes, their names are so much fun. I’m feeling I finally have the dye studio organized. Now to get out there and do something!!
Your color choices are amazing. Love jewel tones!
Would you be able to use those in a quilt, without running colors when washed?
Can’t wait to see what you do with them.
Dolly, Yes, I love the jewel tones too! They are pretty small pieces except for the fat quarters but could be used in a quilt piece. Since I wash them out good, there should be no running of colors. Still thinking about how to use them!
